Lithograph enhanced with oil, after "Combat in a Church" by painter Alphonse de Neuville (1835-1885), work of 1881. On panel, signed with two initials in the lower right-hand corner "ED". Illegible annotations on the back. France late 19th century. Very good condition. Lively, poignant work.
Alphonse Marie Deneuville, known as Alphonse de Neuville, born May 31, 1835 in Saint-Omer (62) and died May 18, 1885 in Paris 17th, was a French military draughtsman, illustrator and painter. A pupil of François Édouard Picot, he was one of the leading exponents of 19th-century military painting. He became famous for paintings depicting the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71.
