Rare bronze four-lobed plate from a processional cross, Italian work from the late 15th or very early 16th century.

The central medallion depicts the archangel Gabriel half-body, nimbed and in profile to the right, holding two large plants evoking ears of wheat.

The central medallion depicts the archangel Gabriel mid-body, nimbed and in profile to the right, holding two large plants evoking ears of wheat. Four more difficult-to-identify nimbed figures are positioned in the four peripheral lobes.

The whole elegantly testifies to Italian Renaissance and Quattrocento aesthetics, with delicate modeling and a very balanced composition.

Very fine antique dark brown patina.
Very good condition.

A comparable medallion, of smaller dimensions and in a later style, is preserved at the Musée du Louvre (inv. OA 2842).

The medallion is in very good condition.
