Miniature Ormolu Case - French Work, Late 17th Century, Louis XIV Period
Charming gilt bronze miniature chest, known as a "coffret bombé", dating from the late 17th century and representative of French taste during the reign of Louis XIV.
The entire piece is richly decorated on its sides with finely chased and punched openwork motifs. The decoration features an elegant network of foliate scrolls and interlacing, punctuated by stylized flowers, characteristic of the ornamental repertoire of the Grand Siècle.
The domed lid is decorated with a fine, openwork design.
The domed lid is topped by a small handle for gripping, adding both functionality and refinement to the object. The openwork bottom reveals orange-colored silk velvet, providing a warm, precious contrast to the metal structure.
This box testifies to fine French craftsmanship of the Louis XIV period, probably intended for display or showcase use, in the spirit of the decorative arts of the court of Versailles.
The object is in very good condition. It shows old traces of gilding, testifying to its authenticity and age. Sold without its key.
Beautiful display object, both decorative and historical, offering a refined testimony to the taste of the Grand Siècle.
