The Swoon Of Saint Thérèse, XVIII Th Century
Transverbération De Sainte Thérèse, Huile Sur Cuivre Du XVII Eme Siècle.
L'extase De Sainte Thérèse, Huile Sur Cuivre Du XVII Eme Siècle.
The composition is magnificent: St. Therese appears facing her "apparition" in full ecstasy, supported by two angels.
St. Therese is in full swoon, and it's hard to tell whether her face is describing pain or spasms. The painter has captured the mystery of the saint's ecstasy, not only through her face, but also through her body, which slumps almost lifelessly as two beautiful angels support her.
Before her stands her vision in the midst of clouds: this apparition holds in her hand the golden spear with a small fire at the end! This same spear that St. Teresa felt penetrate her to the depths of her bowels and leave her on fire with a great love of God!
such intense pain seized her, making her moan, but yet the sweetness of this excessive pain was such that it was impossible for her to want to be rid of it.
according to her writings.
the scene takes place in front of a beautiful architectural ensemble, and in the background at the foot of the Saint appears a beautiful landscape.
the composition is very coherent and corresponds to St. Therese's memoirs.
one has the impression here that it is the infant Jesus himself who appears to pierce her.
the colors are superb, the reds and blues are vivid and deep, difficult to render in photographs.
almost no restoration.
a Flemish-style frame in blackened wood from the late 19th century frames this beautiful copper panel.
work of great finesse and precision, the details of which are to be seen up close.
a magnificent ecstasy of Saint Theresa, a very fine painting of high quality, and a very balanced representation.
dimensions:
17.5 cm and 33 cm with frame
23 cm and 38.5 cm high with frame
