18th Century French School, After David Teniers Le Jeune (36 X 51 Cm) Oil On Panel

Expert : René Millet

Seventeenth-century carved and gilded wood frame sold separately

Charming genre scene depicting the lively interior of a Flemish inn, in the spirit of the popular compositions by David Teniers le Jeune. Around a table, several figures converse and drink, while at the back of the room, other figures bustle about by the hearth. The warm light and chiaroscuro effects give this composition an intimate, lively atmosphere typical of 17th-century Flemish painting.

This work, produced in the 18th century by a French artist, testifies to the enduring popularity of Teniers' village and tavern scenes, which were highly sought-after by European connoisseurs.
The oak-panel support, free brushstrokes and brown palette with luminous accents add to the charm of this decorative painting of the highest quality.
