Spanish Carved And Gilded Wooden Frame – Late 16th / Early 17th Century (113 × 85 / 86.5 × 52.5 Cm)

An important antique carved wooden frame, originally gilded, featuring a striking design of deeply carved plant scrollwork in relief.
The ornamentation, inspired by late Spanish Renaissance motifs, extends across the entire width of the stiles and rails in a remarkable interplay of volutes, curled leaves, and stylized plant motifs.
The vigor of the carving and the depth of the reliefs lend the piece a particularly strong architectural presence.

This type of frame was intended for framing religious, historical, or devotional paintings in Habsburg Spain. The remnants of the original gilding and the beautiful patina acquired over the centuries reinforce its authentic character.

With its generous dimensions and powerful decoration, this frame stands as a remarkable testament to Spanish decorative art during the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque period.
