Tyrolean Painted Wardrobe

Technical Information:

Period: early 19th century
Origin: Tyrol
Wood: Spruce
Height: 188 cm
Width: 136 cm (160 cm to the moldings)
Depth: 50 cm (60 cm to the moldings)

Description:

Tyrolean painted wardrobe made of fir wood, dating from around 1820.
The structure features a rectangular body with chamfered edges, set on turned front and rear legs, with a slightly projecting base and a molded upper cornice, which also protrudes beyond the sides.
The front is marked by two hinged doors, each divided into square panels. Inside the panels are painted stylized floral compositions that emerge from decorative vases, following a symmetrical and vertical pattern. The motifs, executed in tempera, employ a traditional palette with a blue background, red and green frames, and polychrome accents in the floral details. The panel frames and decorative bands feature undulating and plant-like motifs, drawn with continuous, regular lines.
The hardware is wrought iron: the hinges are exposed, fixed directly to the doors, while the interior lock is equipped with a shaped plate and original mechanism, visible in the detailed images.
The sides are left exposed and decorated with a painted faux-wood finish featuring a wavy pattern that mimics the grain of wood. The side decoration is framed by painted bands that echo the colors and motifs of the front, creating visual continuity.
The interior is organized as a single compartment and can be customized according to its intended use.

Work performed on all our furniture:

– Structural restoration: replacement of small missing parts, filling of any cracks on the back panel, consolidation of deteriorated areas, inspection and repair of hardware.
– Thorough woodworm treatment.
– Cleaning and sanitization of the interior.
– Exterior finish with natural beeswax.
– Interior finish with shellac, a natural alcohol-based varnish.
