Description:

A fir wood chest, fully painted and dated 1773 on the front. The piece features a rectangular structure with a cantilevered lid, characterized by pronounced perimeter moldings and geometric panels on the top surface.

The front facade is divided into three sections by vertical molded stiles, which define three large rectangular panels. Inside the side panels, the date stands out, divided into two parts: the digits “17” on the left and “73” on the right, rendered in a light pigment on neutral, sanded backgrounds. The central and side panels are bordered by wide perimeter bands in a dark blue-green hue, embellished with a serial decoration of swirls embossed or impressed in relief.

The central panel features a shaped wrought-iron vent, dating from the time of the cabinet’s construction, complete with its original ring-shaped latch. The sides of the piece faithfully replicate the decorative scheme of the front, featuring a single large, light-colored rectangular panel framed by the same dark band with embossed motifs. The surface finish preserves the original polychromy, marked by a natural patina of age.
