Sèvres - King Louis-philippe's Service Plate At The Château De Neuilly 19th C. 1847

Hard porcelain soup plate from the Manufacture royale de Sèvres, from the service commissioned by King Louis-Philippe for the Château de Neuilly, the royal family's private residence during the July Monarchy.

This service, commissioned in 1835, features a refined decoration on a white background, combining friezes, palmettes and floral motifs, typical of the Louis-Philippe taste.
Just like a few other privileged royal residences such as the Château d'Eu, Fontainebleau or Randan, the Château de Neuilly is equipped with a service with a specific decor that stands out from official services.
A dinner plate for Neuilly cost 27 francs - directly from the King's personal coffers - a substantial sum compared to the 5.50 francs for a white and gold plate from the Princes' service.

The Château de Neuilly was a more intimate setting for family life than the Tuileries. After it was looted and burned in 1848 during the revolutionary events, the pieces from this service were scattered or broken and are therefore particularly rare today.

It bears the 1847 maker's mark, the 1848 decorator's mark and the Moyez gilder's mark, but not the château's red mark, an occasional absence which is recorded in several of the royal services (see Le service du Roi Louis-Philippe au Château de Fontainebleau, Gérard Barbe, p99) and which sometimes entailed a return to Sèvres to apply the missing markings.
Very good condition, one restoration to the wing.
