Louis XVI Period Portico Clock In Black Marble And Gilt Bronze - Le Roy à Paris
Very beautiful Louis XVI period portico clock, crafted in black marble and finely chased bronze and gilded with mercury, featuring a balanced and elegant neoclassical architecture.
It rests on a black marble base, from which rise two fluted columns at the front, accompanied at the back by architectural elements framing the dial.
The ensemble is richly adorned with draped garlands, rosettes, rows of pearls and Medici vases, typical of the decorative vocabulary of the late 18th century.
The white enamel dial, signed "Le Roy à Paris", is framed by a finely worked bezel.
It is surmounted by an eagle with outstretched wings, a classic symbol in the neoclassical repertoire.
The bronzes preserved on the dial are of the highest quality.
The bronzes retain a beautiful original mercury gilding, offering alternating matt and burnished surfaces that highlight the quality of the chasing.
The movement, visible on the back, is wire-suspended, characteristic of Parisian production in the late Louis XVI period.
It has been fully overhauled by a watchmaker, guaranteeing its smooth operation.
Late 18th century, Louis XVI period, circa 1785-1795, transition period to the Directoire.

- a slight old accident to the enameled dial .

The hands are original.
