Acid-etched Multi-layered Glass Art Deco Ball Vase - Le Verre Français-charles Schneider

Artist: Charles Schneider
Elegant ball-shaped vase on a small flattened ring foot, in blown multi-layered glass, made by the Schneider factory in its "Le Verre Français" commercial line. The globular body flares out into a small neck with a hemmed, upturned lip, in a beautiful golden honey hue that contrasts with the dark palette of the body.
The decoration, obtained with a double layer of orange and garnet-brown glass on an amber-yellow background, was freed with hydrofluoric acid using the factory's characteristic technique: a continuous composition of sinuous branches bearing stylized bunches and foliage unfolds around the entire circumference, the deep burgundy-red and orange tones creating a luminous vibration typical of Épinay-sur-Seine production in the 1920s.
Charles Schneider (1881-1952) was one of the leading figures in French art glass between the wars. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy and then in Paris, he began his career at Daum in Nancy under Henri Bergé, where he mastered cameo glass and the decorative techniques inherited from the École de Nancy.
