Geometric Art Deco Screen
A four-panel Art Deco screen in lacquered wood, conceived as a large-scale abstract composition in black, vermilion, ivory, and gold. Each panel is set within a continuous, asymmetrical pattern of intersecting diagonals, overlapping rectangles, and sawtooth zigzags, lending the surface a lively, almost cinematic rhythm. The deep, glossy black background serves as a field against which the red and ivory planes appear to slice through the surface, while broad bursts of gold leaf add a luxurious, light-catching accent, typical of grand Art Deco. The geometry is treated in a spirit reminiscent of avant-garde graphics and stage designs of the late 1920s, yet remains resolutely decorative, calibrated to remain legible whether the screen is partially folded or fully extended. Simultaneously a mobile architectural partition and a wall-sized abstract painting, the piece was designed to enliven a modern interior with color, reflections, and a decidedly contemporary dynamism.
