Pair Of Finely Inlaid Walnut Trumeau Cabinets. Veneto, 18th Century.

A pair of finely inlaid walnut trumeau cabinets. Veneto, 18th century.

116 x 62 x h 237.5 cm.

The two trumeau cabinets, forming a pendant pair, are entirely veneered in walnut with carob wood inserts, whose irregular grain animates the panel grounds. The marquetry decoration, executed in light woods against a dark ground, covers the entire surface with interlacing scrolls, foliage, and vine tendrils distributed across every register of the piece. Grotesque mascaron masks appear at the corners and on the drawer fronts, integrated within the overall marquetry design. The structure comprises a lower section with three drawers and a fall-front writing surface, a middle section with a single arched mirror door, and a shaped cornice with a moulded profile. At the centre of the cornice, a noble heraldic emblem — presumably the coat of arms of the original patron — is inlaid within a symmetrical composition of ribbons and scrolls. Drawers and doors are fitted with gilt bronze double-ring pulls. The sides repeat the decorative scheme with cartouche-centred panels.
