Pewter Pitcher 18th Century - Falaise, C. Borde
Artist: C.borde
This large, baluster-shaped wine pitcher measures 30 cm in height and displays the typical characteristics of Norman pewter silversmiths of the second half of the 18th century.
The object features a long, flared neck known as a "swan neck", an oblique foot and a lid hinged by a hinge with a tassel poucier.
The body is soberly decorated with recessed mulure fillets that encircle the neck and body.
The lid bears the marks of use and ownership with the initials "PLR" struck in recess.
It also bears the hallmark of C. Borde, a master pewter potter in Falaise circa 1750.
Although the imprint is incomplete, the soldier's figure and the town of Falaise are still identifiable.
This model is in very good condition.
