"18th Century Iron"
Ember Iron - late 18th century. Ember iron called boat by its shape. The ventilation is unilateral, ensured by a frieze cut in the shape of a checkerboard. The whole is made of wrought iron, The wooden handle has been changed (not original) as well as the fixings of its uprights (washers).. The closure is ensured by a spring hook. Classically the closure was done with a rotating hook + ring. It is in a used condition. Many lacks of material on the edge (3 holes visible in the photos). It has suffered from numerous exposures to heat which would try to prove that it has been well used (holes and corrosion in contact with the embers).
