An interesting cult board from a ceremonial house collected in northern Papua New Guinea. These boards, placed in the men's house, show very old drawings which are abstract representations of natural elements (totemic animals and plants, moon, sun, stars, etc.) or mythical ancestors. They are veritable artistic tableaux whose symbols are a scripture in their own right... Two stylized Janus faces sculpted in relief. Wood and natural pigments. Sold with a presentation base.
