A very beautiful traditional kina with its braided cord and original resin, which protects the dancer wearing it from injury during dances. The kina serves both as an ornament worn as a pendant on the chest and as a prestigious currency of exchange. Made and worn in the Papuan highlands area. This object gave its name to the modern currency, the kina. A truly beautiful piece. Pictada maxima shell (pearl oyster), fibers, cowrie shells, red ochre, and opossum and pig skin. Sold with a base.
