Leon Geille De Saint-leger : "old Shepherd"
LéonGeille de Saint-Léger (1864-1937): "Old shepherd", oil on mahogany panel 27 X 21 cm, unframed.
Superficial scratches, coarse oxidized varnish.
Born in Algiers, he spent most of his life in Algeria, where he drewfor many of his works.
He did, however, have a studio in Paris, from which he radiated to Brittany and Normandy, the region in which our picture was probably painted, capturing the moment of dreamy lassitude in which our shepherd watches over his flock from afar.
