Gravure Du Havre - Vue Du Port Et Des Chantier Du Havre - Ep. XVIIIe - Optical View
Beautiful watercolor coloring by hand.
In the foreground, the bustle of a shipyard: carpenters, caulkers and workers saw, square and assemble ribs, trestles, saws and planks litter the floor.
In the center and to the left, the fortified town with towers, ramparts and quays, dry docks housing hulls under construction.
To the right and in the distance, the roadstead opens out onto the sea: lateen-sailed barques, cargo ships and a large three-masted ship under flag. The expansive sky accentuates the depth typical of optical views.
