"les Confidences," A Beautiful, Delicate Engraving Printed For Carington Bowles, Framed In The 18th Century
Artist: L.h.e. Inv S. & Freudeberg
A charming, finely engraved English print from the second half of the 18th century: “Les Confidences”; comfortably seated in a drawing room, two lovely young women exchange a letter and engage in a heart-to-heart conversation; this remarkable intimate scene of the nobility has everything to captivate: a delightful subject and a beautiful, nearly square format; set in a green-and-gold lacquered molded frame and presented in a sepia-toned passe-partout with a gold border. The beautiful composition is captivating, and this work—signed in the lower left corner—embodies all the charm of the 18th century across the Channel... Customs very much like our own.... A labeled tag from the period (circa 1780) is attached to the back of the work.
