Large two-layer agate cameo dating from the 2nd half of the 19th century, Napoleon III period.
This is a very fine, large cameo depicting a young woman in the antique style with a very elaborate hairstyle.
with her profile turned to the left, this young woman is carved in a large stratum of white agate standing out against a background of brown agate.
the carving is of great finesse of execution and the face is remarkably executed with multiple minute details: the pearl in the ear, the anglaise behind the ear, the very elaborate chignon.
the face of this young woman in the taste of antiquity is ravishing.
the cameo is set in a gilded metal mount whose brooch/pendant system on the back has been lost.
This cameo is in excellent condition.
