Large 19th-century Anglo-indian Chest
Large 19th-Century Anglo-Indian Compartmentalized Box.
A significant, intricately carved 19th-century crossbow-shaped box made of solid rosewood.
An Anglo-Indian piece crafted for the trading posts of the era in India and for the English export market.
The rosewood is of superb quality and features alternating light and dark grain patterns.
This chest contains two tiers of compartments that close with lids featuring bone marquetry and various exotic woods.
The interior of the lid is itself adorned with a large flower inlaid with bone.
Each small lid features beautiful bone marquetry and inlay work.
The set is complete and in excellent condition with a buff-varnish finish.
The lid has a slight crack that does not affect its function, visible in the photos.
Original lock, key, and hinges.
The two tiers of compartments can be removed from the box.
An ideal box for a collector of jewelry, buttons, or cameos.
It can also serve as a beautiful box for games, etc...
In any case, it is a superb box in its own right and has no missing parts.
Please note that for a box of this size, the dimensions are significant and the weight of the solid rosewood is quite substantial.
