Large 19th Century Porcelain Painting: Sailor And Woman With A Mask

Important porcelain painting dating from the middle of the 19th century in a very beautiful gilded wood and stucco frame in the Louis XV style.
It is a large porcelain panel and the subject is very amusing, romantic and almost naughty.
A sailor, perhaps a Greek sailor, is about to leave and his boat seems to be waiting for him on the left side of the painting.
At his side stands a beautiful young woman, richly dressed and wearing a mask to hide her face.
She seems determined to hold this sailor back. In the 18th century, women portrayed with a mask were often associated with courtesans or women of loose morals.
Here we can ask ourselves the question, why hide their faces?
The subject is truly charming and entertaining, the firing colors are superb and the whole is very decorative!
