Vase Depicting Women In A Garden, China, Qing Dynasty, 19th / 20th Century.

Hand-painted, enameled porcelain vase. It depicts a group of court ladies in a garden. The figures are dressed in traditional multicolored dresses. The background is made up of landscape elements: fanciful garden rocks (taihu), flowering trees (probably plum or cherry), architectural elements (fence, pavilion) and details such as butterflies and pomegranate fruit (symbolizing fertility and numerous offspring). On the reverse is a long inscription in cursive black ink.

China, Qing dynasty, late 19th / early 20th century.

Height 43 cm, diameter 19 cm.

Very good condition.

The main part of the inscription is a poem describing the beauty of the garden and nature. It reads in substance:
"满园春色浓如锦, 摇曳红梅映玉人" (Mǎn yuán chūnsè nóng rú jǐn, yáoyè hóng méi yìng yù rén)
Translation:
"Spring colors throughout the garden are dense (rich) like brocade, The swaying red plum blossoms reflect in the [beauty] of a jade lady. "
Lower column (left - signature)
"书于珠山客次" (Shū yú Zhūshān kè cì): Written in Zhushan (famous hill of Jingdezhen, heart of Chinese porcelain production) during a stay as a guest.
"茂茂作" (Mào Mào zuò): Made by Mao Mao (artist's name/pseudonym).
