Large Blue-and-white Porcelain Vase – China, Qing Dynasty, Guangxu Period (1875–1908)

An elegant and rare Chinese porcelain flower vase, decorated in underglaze blue, featuring a lobed form with five recesses designed to hold flowers, dominated by a tall central stem topped with a lotus-bud-shaped knob.

The delicately executed decoration alternates between rich floral scrolls and panels depicting young scholars in a garden landscape, rendered in the style of late Qing Dynasty Jingdezhen porcelain. The figures, radiating serenity, are depicted in a stylized botanical setting, while the composition is enlivened by an elegant, continuous design of flowers and arabesques.

Beneath the base is an apocryphal mark “ Qianlong Nian Zhi” (乾隆年製 – Made during the Qianlong reign), a mark of respect frequently used on high-quality pieces from the late 19th century, though it does not constitute an attribution to the Qianlong reign.

This piece features high-quality porcelain, a dense body, and deep cobalt decoration characteristic of Jingdezhen productions from the Guangxu period (1875–1908) or the very early Republican era.

In very good condition, with no cracks or restoration. A few slight signs of wear consistent with its age, particularly around the lower holes.

Provenance: former private collection, brought back from Indochina in the early 20th century.

Shipping: 18 euros within France, 35 euros within the EU, and 150 euros to the rest of the world.
