Blue-and-White Porcelain Ginger Jar - China, Qing Dynasty, 19th Century

Porcelain ginger jar from ancient China, dating from the Qing Dynasty (19th century).
It features a continuous, hand-painted underglaze blue design (cobalt with a gray-blue hue), depicting a traditional lakeside landscape. One side depicts stylized mountains and coastal dwellings, while the other side reveals a poetic scene of fishermen in their boat. The shoulder of the jar is accented by a double geometric hatched frieze, characteristic of provincial export wares from this period.
The body features a magnificent, dense network of natural crackles (crazing) deeply weathered by time, attesting to its age. The unglazed base reveals a raw, earthy clay body with its original small firing impurities. The neck also features a band of raw terracotta where the original lid was once sealed.
