Sculptural Stone Lamp - Albert Tormos
Sculptural stone lamp - Albert Tormos
Beautiful artist's lamp in natural stone, the work of sculptor Albert Tormos, active in Saint-Tropez in the second half of the XXᵉ century.
This piece features sober, powerful architecture, carved from a block of stone with a highly expressive mineral texture. The vertical, almost monolithic form is enlivened by four square apertures that lighten the mass and create a subtle play of light and shadow when the lamp is lit.
The workmanship of the material, which has been used to create this piece, is of the highest quality.
The work on the material is remarkable: the deliberately rough surface retains the natural grain of the stone, giving the whole an aesthetic that is both organic and modernist, close to the minimalist sculpture of the 1960s-1970s.
Each face reveals a balance between full and empty volume, reminiscent of certain research in contemporary Mediterranean sculpture.
The base bears a workshop label stating:
"Sculpteur Tormos - Pierre naturelle".
An object on the border between sculpture and lighting, this lamp makes a strong decorative piece, ideal in a contemporary, brutalist or modernist interior.
