Pair of portraits of riders on their mounts. Elegantly dressed, one is galloping and the other standing still.
Equestrian portraits were very much in vogue in the 17th century, with painters such as Van der Meulen, Parrocel and Velasquez among others depicting Kings on their magnificent mounts.
Just d'Egmont, a Flemish painter who stayed in France from 1625 to 1628 and was a pupil of Rubens, painted the equestrian portrait of the young Louis XIV setting off on a hunting expedition, which can be admired at the Musée Condé in Chantilly.
