French School Circa 1770

Artist: Suiveur De Fragonard
Ecole française vers 1770
Huile sur bois
28 x 23,4 cm hors cadre

The painter depicted a naked, sleeping, and innocent young woman. Behind her sleepy face, we can see the head of a man discovering her abandoned body; an angel watches over the sleeping beauty. This scene reminds us of the theme of Antiope and Jupiter. The transformed and indiscreet god approaches the nymph's body.

The body is delicately painted; a soft light spreads over the young woman's undulating body and contrasts with the dark fabrics covering her bed.
