Born in Rouen in 1898, Pierre Le Trividic was one of the most prolific and engaging representatives of the second generation of the Rouen School. A versatile artist who is at once a painter, illustrator and architect by training.
Le Trividic is often defined as a post-impressionist painter and chronicler of everyday life.
He devoted his life to capturing the soul of his native region with unique vividness and documentary precision.
A brilliant student, He first studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, where he won all the first prizes.
This initial training gave him a rigor of construction that can be seen even in his freestyle works.
The call of painting, although he set up as an architect in 1926, his passion for drawing and color quickly took over.
He became an active member of the Normandy art scene.
He immortalized old half-timbered streets, the bustling port of Rouen and market scenes with an alert, synthetic touch.
Early in 1925, he collaborated with the local press (notably La Dépêche de Rouen).
His courtroom sketches, captured on the spot, testify to a keen sense of observation and subtle humor.
He illustrated numerous literary works, notably for authors such as Jean de La Varende and Alphonse Allais, affirming his status as a complete artist.
In 1931, the French state acquired one of his canvases depicting Rouen Cathedral. His works subsequently became part of the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen and the City of Paris.Legacy.
Dying in 1960, Pierre Le Trividic left behind an immense body of work (oils, watercolors, drawings) that today constitutes an invaluable historical testimony to Normandy between the wars and during Reconstruction.
His pieces are particularly sought-after for their authenticity, their dynamism and their ability to transform a familiar place into a scene vibrant with poetry.
