Pierre Benigni, born in 1878, was a renowned 20th-century military painter, specializing in the Napoleonic armies. A student of the master Édouard Detaille, he became, after Maurice Mahut, the official military painter of the French Foreign Legion, immortalizing infantry regiments, mounted companies, and cavalry regiments. He collaborated notably with the great collectors Raoul and Jean Brunon, founders of the Military Museum at the Château de l'Empéri, on various editions of his work. He is responsible for the illustrations in the Golden Book of the French Foreign Legion, published for its centenary in 1931. He was appointed Legionnaire 1st Class of Honor in 1933, service number 12002. His works were produced... A very beautiful original watercolor signed Pierre Benigni in the lower right corner.
