Orientalist Painting By Maurice Bompard, Harem Scene, Nude Women, Algeria, North Africa, Morocco
Artist: Maurice Bompard
Oil on panel by the Orientalist painter Maurice BOMPARD depicting a Harem scene. This talented painter was born in Rodez in 1857 and died in the same city in 1936. He was a student of Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1878. He participated in the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900 and the Colonial Exhibition in Marseille in 1906. Maurice Bompard lived for several years in Briska. Maurice Bompard is listed in the Benezit Dictionary of Artists and in Lyne Thornton's reference work on Orientalist painters. This oil painting is representative of his work, primarily focused on Orientalist scenes and views of Venice. Maurice Bompard uses an Impressionist technique and a warm palette to create an intimate and ethereal atmosphere inhabited by nude women. This painting bears a dedication and is signed in the lower left corner. The panel has been restored, with a small crack reinforced by a piece of wood on the back. There is also a small crack near the signature, but it is not serious. Additional photos are available upon request. The painting is presented in a more recent, varnished black wood frame that suits it very well. Framed size: 43 cm x 34 cm. Image size: 32.50 cm x 23 cm.
