"Portrait Of A Woman From The Louis XV Period - 18th Century, After Coypel, Elegant Noblewoman, Winter, Oil On Canvas "
An 18th-century oil portrait on canvas from the reign of Louis XV, depicting an elegant young noblewoman, richly and warmly dressed, symbolizing "Winter," by a follower or from the workshop of Charles Antoine Coypel (1694-1752). A nearly identical painting was sold at Dorotheum in 2014. This must be a work based on the original, a commission from Coypel's workshop (this subject was indeed very popular), or the work of a follower. In any case, the quality of execution is clearly evident, particularly in the delicate complexion of the young woman's skin and the striking elegance emanating from this work. The painting has some patches on the back; the corresponding repainting is illusionistic. It is on its original 18th-century canvas and stretcher. The solid wood frame is later.
