Green Tara, 17.3 Cm, Tibet, 18th/19th Century
A finely chased gilt-bronze statuette, inlaid with turquoise cabochons, depicting the bodhisattva Tara seated in lalitasana, her right leg dangling and resting on a small blooming lotus. Her right hand is lowered in varada mudra, the gesture of giving, while her left hand holds the stem of an utpala lotus blossoming on either side of her shoulders. The deity is adorned with rich bodhisattva ornaments, including a five-pointed crown decorated with turquoise stones, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and a finely chased belt. Her face, with its gentle features and half-closed eyes, expresses the serenity characteristic of Himalayan iconography. The figure sits on a lotus-shaped base with a double row of petals. Normal wear to the gilding due to age. Height 17.3 cm. French collection.
