Mongolia 19th century 40 cm The Gandantegchinlin Monastery (Mongolian: Гандан тэгчинлин хийд, Gandantegchinlin khiid; Tibetan: དགའ་ལྡན་ཐེག་ཆེན་གླིང, dga'-ldan theg chen gling), formerly known as Gandan Monastery, is a Tibetan-style Buddhist monastery located in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Its original Tibetan name can be translated as "the Great Place of Complete Joy". Several hundred monks currently reside there.
