This painting is the work of Lucius (Lucio) Rossi (1846 Rome - 1913 Paris), a renowned genre painter, portraitist, and illustrator. A student of the Academy of Saint Luke in Rome, influenced by Fortuny, he settled in Paris in 1867 and worked notably for the publishing houses Goupil et Cie and Figaro Illustre.
