Breton Scene
Oil on canvas from the second half of the 19th century depicting a rural Breton scene. A group of peasants walk with their animals along a path, with the sea seemingly visible in the background. Perhaps they are coming up from the beach? The village church steeple can be seen on the left, among the trees. Two women are seated on their mounts while a third busily urges the oxen forward, the men leading the animals, and a dog barks nearby. A well-composed painting with a beautiful cloudy sky. On its original canvas. A handsome frame with fluted and gilded wood spandrels and moldings. Some minor losses to the whitewash around the edge of the frame, without affecting the artwork and easily concealed. French School, second half of the 19th century. Canvas dimensions: 34 cm x 22.5 cm. Dimensions with frame: 46.5 cm x 36 cm. Free shipping within mainland France.
