"Woman With A Parasol"
Oil on panel depicting a woman with a parasol on the doorstep of a bourgeois house during the reign of Napoleon III. A beautiful atmosphere pervades this 19th-century town garden, with two Nevers vases (?) containing orange blossoms and a pergola overflowing with vegetation. The panel is signed lower left by Charles Théodore SAUVAGEOT (1826-1883) and dated 1869. The panel is in good condition. Dimensions: 35 cm x 27 cm. No frame. 19th century. Charles Théodore SAUVAGEOT, born February 22, 1826, in Paris; died February 15, 1883, in Fontainebleau. Son of a stained-glass painter and a genre and portrait painter. A student of Isabey, his taste led him to landscape painting. He initially worked as a draftsman for illustrated periodicals, then produced lithographs from his drawings. He exhibited at the Salon in 1863. He won a medal in 1879. He even exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1881 and 1882. Several museums possess his paintings.
