Bronze Seal Matrix, Enthroned Virgin and Child, Gothic, 13th–14th Century.

Exceptional bronze seal matrix of considerable size, a rarity on the market. The diameter is 5.1 cm, which is unusual for this type of object. The motif depicts an enthroned Virgin and Child, framed by a three-aisled Gothic arcade surmounted by finely chiseled pinnacles.

The inscription, although complete, is complex and warrants careful transcription; the initial word "Conventus" is clearly distinguishable. Stylistic analysis suggests this matrix is similar to Cistercian matrices. The reverse side features a handle.

This matrix, remarkable for its state of preservation and generous size, dates from between the 13th and 14th centuries and constitutes a rare example of medieval seal production and Gothic miniature sculpture.

This rare object comes from an old French collection and is accompanied by its 19th-century plaster cast.
