Michel-henry - Boats In The Port, A Crane On The Quays In The Distance
Artist: Michel Henry (1928-2016)
Michel-Henry (1928-2016) - Boats in the harbor, a crane on the quays in the distance.
Gouache, signed lower left.
Artwork: 16 x 24.5 cm; with frame: 33.5 x 42.7 cm.
Michel Henry (1928-2016) entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris in the studio of Roger Chapelain-Midy. He was a resident at the Maison Descartes in Amsterdam in 1956 and then, along with André Plisson, a laureate of the 28th graduating class of the Casa de Velázquez in 1957-1958. A member of the School of Paris, he became known for his still lifes and landscapes. He was appointed president of the Salon d'Automne in 1983.
In this gouache, the boats seem to sway, while touches of bold color, such as the yellow crane in the background, create an atmosphere of cheerfulness.
