A beautiful anatomical plate depicting a dissection of the male perineum, highlighting the network of perineal nerves.
This lithograph is taken from the famous medical work by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797–1849), illustrated by the painter and draftsman Nicolas Henri Jacob (1782–1871).
It comes from the monumental atlas titled Traité complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, published in Paris between 1831 and 1854 and considered one of the most remarkable anatomical works of the 19th century.
The plate presented here is from Volume III, numbered Pl. 57, and presents with great scientific precision a study of the nerves of the human perineum, executed from life. It attests to the high scientific and artistic quality of Nicolas Henri Jacob’s illustrations.

These anatomical plates were intended to illustrate the medical and scientific works of the time and are now sought after both for their historical interest and their aesthetic quality.
Condition: good overall condition, paper is fresh and crisp. Note a small tear in the upper left corner.
