Transitional Period Commode With Projecting Front, 18th Century.
A beautiful and elegant Louis XV and Louis XVI transitional commode, 1770-1780, 18th century. From a private collection. In very good condition. Dimensions: H. 86 cm x W. 113 cm x D. 57 cm. This commode features three drawers in two rows at the front, known as a "commode sauteuse." Its distinctive feature is a top drawer split in the middle. It boasts lovely marquetry in a butterfly wing pattern and a Greek key motif adorned with finials on the drawers and sides. The woods used are rosewood, palisander, lemonwood, and sycamore. The rounded front uprights are also inlaid with butterfly wings, simulating an apron-like construction. Beautiful gilt-bronze mounts complete the decoration. It is topped with its original royal red marble slab.
