Enamel And Silver Flask With Birds And Bouquets, Louis XV Period
This charming gourd-shaped perfume bottle is made of enamel with a finely checkered blue ground on all sides. One side is decorated with a bird among fruit and flowers within a lozenge-shaped reserve of white and black enamel dots.
The other side features a bouquet of flowers and leaves within a lozenge-shaped reserve highlighted with rocaille brackets in white and black enamel.
The rim is decorated with finely checkered triangular motifs in pink and white enamel. The neck and stopper, made of silver tested with a touchstone, are joined by a chain.
An enamel example in the same style and technique, dated 1753-1756, is on display at the National Museum in Oslo.
