20th-century Japanese Porcelain Gourd Vase?
There are objects that sometimes refuse, for a time, to reveal their story. This elegant porcelain vase in the shape of a gourd is one of them. Extremely simple, made of a very white clay, coated with an equally white glaze, decorated only with friezes at the neck, base, and rim, it bears no markings that might guide us. Its form belongs to traditional Asian culture and is not so common. Its creation and origin, however, remain shrouded in mystery for now. A European manufacturer would have been too proud of this piece not to affix its mark. This suggests an Asian origin. First question regarding its age: the absence of a maker's mark, as well as the absolute regularity of its execution, suggests a piece that is not contemporary, without being particularly old either, probably from the early or mid-20th century. Japan and Korea perpetuate exceptional craftsmanship through small workshops and master artisans; it is possible that this is the case. Any information would be welcome to correct my ignorance. I simply succumbed to the pleasure of its rare and very simple form; I hope you will feel the same. Perfect condition.
