Frédéric Mistral. 1890, La Reino Jano. Original Edition

Queen Jane is an essential character in Provençal medieval culture, it is not surprising that Frédéric Mistral (1830-1914) put her on stage in a play. This author, a lexicologist, who worked on the conservation of the Provençal language, received the Nobel Prize for Literature at the beginning of the 20th century for "Mirehio" (Mireille), a prize awarded at the time for a work in a non-official language. Here, the five-act drama is also performed in Provençal, but the translation is printed opposite, to facilitate access to the text. Provençal songs accompany the play, certainly sung during the performance. This is the original 1890 edition published in Paris by Lemerre, bound at the time in a pleasant half-binding in blue leather (spine slightly discolored). The whole is in good condition, the paper very fresh, the binding very solid. The book was sold in the 1960s by an expert, J. d'Aspect, on rue d'Aubagne in Marseille, at a time when this street was the beating heart of a vanished world...
