18th Century Porcelain, Small Milk Jug

Simplicity is sometimes more evocative than an overly pompous display of virtuosity. This charming little milk jug, dressed in a simple ivory shell, delicately edged with hand-painted gold, and featuring a turned exotic wood handle, possesses a discreet yet endearing refinement. The vibrant clay, the precious wood, and the understated gold undoubtedly belong to 18th-century French production. Without a maker's mark, it is difficult for me to attribute it to a specific manufacturer. The original presence of a lid cannot be ruled out, but as it stands, the piece is perfect, a true imitation of fine silverware.
