Lacquered Pill Or Stamp Box In The Chinese Style.
A charming bronze pillbox or stamp box, mounted with oil on copper, lacquered in the Chinese style with a decoration of gilt pagoda figures on a red background. It opens to reveal three compartments (morning, noon, evening). Made in the late 19th century or around 1900. Our box is typical of these late 19th-century productions, around 1880-1900, when ornamentalists, tired of the pastiches in vogue during the Second Empire, decided to return to the height of taste: perfect copies of 18th-century pieces, perfected with the technical capabilities offered by 19th-century methods. At that time, Paris, at the pinnacle of good taste, illuminated French and international high society with luxury boutiques such as L'Escalier de Cristal, Sormani, and Dasson. Our small, unsigned box is typical of the production of these houses. It is an ideal complement to a purely 18th-century style office or for an interior evoking the refinement of the Belle Époque. Good condition, one small bronze foot is slightly different. Length: 7.4cm Width: 4cm Height: 2.4cm
