Directoire Portico Clock
A charming little Directoire period portico clock, decorated with urns, surmounted by a gilt bronze cassolette, with marble pilasters adorned with applied vestal virgins. The bronzes have a beautiful gilt finish and are finely chased. It has a wire-driven movement in very good condition, certainly ready to run (the movement clicks as soon as I move it), and a sunburst pendulum. It does not appear to have had a bell. The dial, decorated with a painted cupid, is signed Balthazard in Paris (a small chip in the enamel near the keyhole). Minor flaws include a small, old chip on the marble (photo) that has been repaired, a missing nut on one foot, and I do not currently have the key to verify its functionality. The price reflects these easily correctable details.
