C140 "playboy" Armchair By Jens Risom, Usa, Circa 1960
Artist: Jens Risom
The C140 model armchair, also known as the Playboy armchair, was designed by Jens Risom around 1960 and manufactured by Risom Manufacturing Corp., North Grosvenordale, Connecticut. The frame is made of solid teak with architectural lines, featuring slightly inclined, straight armrests and a base with clean lines. The seat and back are padded with foam and upholstered in stretched black leather. The proportions are balanced, the design simple and functional, characteristic of the American modernism developed by Jens Risom in the early 1960s. The label preserved under the seat reads "Jens Risom Design" and "Made by Risom Manufacturing Corp., North Grosvenordale, Conn.," confirming its American production at the time.
