Pair Of Armchairs By Isamu Kenmochi, Japan Circa 1965
Artist: Isamu Kenmochi
Pair of armchairs designed by Isamu Kenmochi, circa the late 1960s. These armchairs perfectly embody the style of modernist Japanese design. Their bent beechwood frame creates a continuous line between the armrests and the legs, giving the armchair a soft and fluid silhouette. The generously padded seat has been restored in a red woven fabric. Here, Kenmochi revisits the forms of pre-war Japanese chairs in a resolutely modern spirit, typical of the 1960s and 70s. A beautiful synthesis of traditional craftsmanship and modernism. Edition: Akita Mokko, circa 1965. Provenance: Hotel in Hokkaido, Japan
